Seth Murari urges discipline among sportsmen and women as Western Region Rugby League climaxes

Veteran sportsman Seth Murari has called on the younger generation, especially youths involved in sports, to uphold the virtue of discipline. Murari emphasized this message while speaking as the guest of honour at the Western Uganda Rugby League finals held at Ntare Grounds, Kakyeka Stadium, on Saturday.  “I congratulate the winners and wish to remind you that sports is a discipline—it shapes character and is a viable avenue for earning a livelihood. But to get there, you must avoid being unruly and undisciplined. You belong to a generation that is both strong and smart,” Murari said.

He added, “It’s a generation that is both privileged and disadvantaged due to the cultural changes and modernization happening in this country. What do we need to survive? We need to be smart and build on the foundation of success for this nation. We do not come in to destroy—we come in to implement. I am in sports because I love it. I have been a boxer, and I am here because of passion. So, as you pursue your sports careers, please be mindful of discipline.”

Kampala International University (KIU) Crowz and Buddu Cuppas emerged as men’s and women’s champions respectively, after dominant performances in their finals.

The Crowz outclassed Fort Portal Tyrants 27-0 in a one-sided men’s final, clinching their third title in the ten-year-old league. Brian Ashaba, Benjamin Mukisa, Clement Ogwal, Daniel Mayanja, and Jonathan Cyirabo each scored a try, with Mukisa finishing as the tournament’s top points scorer with 27 points. Mark Ssengoba also stood out as the top try scorer with five tries.

We are very excited to win this title. Our team has greatly improved in all aspects of the game. However, like many women’s teams in the region and across the country, we still face challenges like limited playing time and inadequate resources. But we shall keep pushing,” said team manager Keith Asiimwe.

KIU Crowz will now await the Central Region champions, with whom they will compete for a spot in the national top-flight league.
